Robert Half’s broader Creative Director band sat roughly $128,000–$171,000. AI Art Director templates often quoted $145,000–$185,000 base plus a learning budget.
Principal-level postings (Amazon-shaped, pipeline ownership, “machine-readable quality”) sit above those medians. Junior “AI CD” titles that are operator work in costume should not.
What to ask in the room
Do I own the cut or the volume. What reports to me. Is there a pipeline I must encode. If the answers are volume, nobody, and no, you are negotiating an operator salary with a director title. That gap will show up in the work.
